| The feeling of the class: This is relaxed class with no pressures and no mandatory performances for the hobbyist belly dancer. This class has brand new beginners up to intermediate. We go over the basics for the beginners and add layers and balancing for the intermediate dancers. We often have haflas (belly dancer parties) at one another's houses and dance at drum circles, all of which are optional. We usually fire dance at these events as long as the weather cooperates. ;-) In the future: I hope to have an additional class based on blocks of time, such as ten weeks that will be more intense. It will start with the first ten weeks as building the basics and endurance, with a long warm up including several yoga poses for strength and balance. Then the next ten weeks will have a certain curriculum to build upon the basics or be a special subject such as floor work or props. These classes will be for students who want to improve their technique and be more serious (but not professional) about their dancing. These students will be expected to practice at home. These classes will hopefully end in a Class Show in a place such as Comma Coffee with friends and family attending. 04/02/06 |
