| What is Desert Goddess Belly Dance? Desert Goddess Belly Dance is a Tribal Fusion style, a mixture of American Tribal Style belly dance, Temple belly dance, and your own particular style. Who are the Desert Goddesses? The Desert Goddesses is a dance troupe formed in 2004 based in Carson City. They dance at various events in Northern Nevada and California. Dancing in the troupe is not required for the class. You only dance in public when you feel comfortable doing so. Do I need to be experienced in dance? No, you don’t. Do I need to be a skinny little thing to dance like this? HECK NO!!! Beauty is more than just the body and we celebrate all kinds of beauty. You don’t even have to expose your belly if you don’t care to! What do I wear to class? For practice, comfort is the name of the game! Wear loose clothing (preferably with a “broomstick” style skirt, but if you don’t have one, we have extras for practice) that doesn’t restrict stretching. And bring water!! So, this is expensive, right?? Certainly not!!! The college community class cost is $60 for 8 1.5-hour classes, with 5 quarters in the year. What do you do in class? Well, we warm up with a stretch routine and then we have a lead meditation to put us in the dancing mood. Next, we learn new moves and practice moves learned in previous classes. These moves include the use of veils and zils (finger cymbals). Finally, the cool down stretches and chatting about costumes. ;-) What ages are allowed in class? All adults are welcome and children are welcome also if they are well behaved and can last for a 1.5-hour class. What if I have a bad back/knees/something else? Moves can always be modified for limited movement, but as with any kind of exercise regimen, please ask your doctor first. |
